3rd Annual Camp S.T.A.R. (Students Taking Active Roles) has held a two-and-a-half-day long camp in Kampong Thom Provincial Teacher Training College (PTTC) initiated by United States Peace Corps Volunteers in our province began annual Camp STARs with different main topics including waste management and being able to implement safe and smart practices at the individual, household, and school levels with intentions of community-wide impact.

 

COMPED-Waste Management was invited to provide its contribution on Solid Waste Management Awareness for 2 hours On Friday, 20th February, 2015 at PTTC. The participants are from the communities of Taingkok Village, T'naot Choom Village, Sambor Village, Baray High School, Sra Yov Village and A Char Leak Village, teacher trainees from the PTTC (Provincial Teacher Training College), Khmer counterparts (one from each school) and Peace Corps volunteers (PCVs).

 

The Presentation points at:

 
  1. The negative environmental and personal health impacts of littering and improper waste disposal. The current status of Cambodia's waste management.
  2. How to prevent these issues by identifying and separating waste. How to dispose each type of waste. such as plastic bottles; cans; cardboard; paper and organic waste and so on – introducing 3Rs concept: reduce, reuse & recycle.
  3. Videos show on
    • the word "Pollution" including air pollution, water pollution, land pollution and so on.
    • problem with plastic and burning trash
    • Reuse/Recycling against landfill
    • Waste bank at school
