Since 2000, the TKG and COMPED have been working closely together to enable poor children in Cambodia to go to school and have the chance to receive vocational training. Although, theoretically all children in Cambodia have the rights to register for schools, many poor families cannot afford paying school materials (e.g. books, pens etc.) and other expenses for the registration. Those children urgently need support, so they have a chance to stay out of the vicious circle of poverty. They are the target group for the work of COMPED. Today, 39 schoolchildren of poor families are supported through parenthoods taken by donors in Germany. Each child receives from 10 to 20 USD per month depending on the donation of their godparents. Most of the children are girls. One of these girls already completed high school and is now going to study economics at the university in Phnom Penh. This was only possible because of the continuing support from Germany and the care of COMPED. |
