The PPP (Public Private Partnership Program) project on “Environmental protection and resource protection in mining industry in Cambodia and Laos” was launched in November 2012 and expected to end in May 2015. The project leader is G.U.B. Ingenieur AG Zwickau, Germany in cooperation with Cambodian Education and Waste Management Organization, University of Battambang, Institute of Technology of Cambodia, Ministry of Environment Cambodia and National University of Laos.  
Under the project frame, 1st training course on “Resource Protecting Mining” was taken place at the University of Battambang on May 16th-17th, 2013. The training aims to demonstrate:
  • Current Situation of Mining in Cambodia
  • Legal Framework
  • Introduction to resource-saving mining
  • Sustainability in Mining Industry
  • Integrated Water Resource Management in Mining Industry
  • Integrated Waste Resource Management in Mining Industry
  • Soil and Land Management
The presenters are from G.U.B. Ingenieur AG Company Dr.-Ing. Thomas Hubrig, Dipl. Sylvia Morgenstern, M.Sc. Romy Schulze; Bio Planta Company Ms. Anja Hebner, fasilitated by Cambodian Education and Waste Management Organization (COMPED) Mr. Sam Phalla and Mr. Uch Rithy and hosted by the University of Battambang (UBB). The participants are the 3rd-year students of the University of Battambang and the competent authorities of Battambang province.
This is a contribution to the development of an economic, environmental and socially sustainable mining industry by sharing the experiences with regard to siting, operation, reclamation measures and redevelopment measures as a result of a sensible resource management. The training is very crucial for Cambodia to have more human resource and for the participants to build up their capacity and knowledge learning know-how in the field of the Environmental Sound Mining Industry.
